It was sooooo quiet in the nursery, we think our children like it here!!

Helping others & making 'Get Well Cards' was the theme with our youngest children. The pre-schoolers explored all areas of the church and saw the kitchen, the back stair case and many other places.

Well, we had a busy Sunday yesterday in the Kindergarten room. We introduced one of our new friends - Rowan - who practices Wicca. We introduced this to the children as worshiping nature and the changing of the seasons. We read a story about the star inside an apple and the children used fresh cut apples to make apple prints. They also decorated gourds and some made autumn pictures.

Next week they will be decorating pumpkins and making a pumpkin light. We still need more small pumpkins for the kids to decorate this next week.

Kindergarten
Today we reviewed the holiday of Ramadan in the Islamic faith tradition. We read a book on Ramadan and talked about how hard it would be to fast. The children had a chance to finish up on their many projects for this session such as: charity jars, decorate a cut out doll of Fatima our child that represents the Islamic faith, and draw a night sky with crescent moon on black paper. All the children had a good time working at the craft tables!

Nursery
Lots of playtime and giggle time, not many tears as the babies and toddlers are getting used to being at FSC on Sunday mornings.

3 Year Olds
Our little friends made beautiful flowers to take home; were engaged in a great story and and made new friends.

Pre-K
We had a good discussion about friendship. We role-played a bit about what one could do to help someone feel welcome. The children each made a place mat for a friend in the room. They really appeared to enjoy seeing others enjoying the mat they each designed.

Kindergarten
We had a really calm and large group today. They listened well at circle time as we brought up the fact that there are many different religious traditions around the world and many different ways people practice and celebrate their beliefs. Also we reminded them that Islam is the religion that Muslim people follow (the word Islam means "peace") and there are some interesting traditions that are unique to them - such as using a prayer rug for praying during the day, going to a Mosque for worship. A few questions and observations followed, then Michelle read a story about how families celebrate Ramadan. We did "Roses and Thorns" and the kids were invited to work on one or more crafts/coloring sheets having to do with Islam. They finished up with a snack just in time as parents came for pick-up.
